Eternal Hybrid water heaters are a great addition to the Energy Star family of water heating appliances.  These particular water heaters have a spectacular thermal efficiency of 98%- 99% depending on fuel type.  Because they are not traditional water heaters or even “traditional” tankless water heaters some people have a lot to say about them in both a positive light and a not so positive one.

First things first, do your homework!  Most tankless water heaters or hybrids in this case operate in a similar manner.  A super hot flame heats water as it passes through the appliance to create an endless supply of hot water.  Tank water heaters are not designed with burners hot enough to keep up with the demand of multiple fixtures open for an extended period of time, tankless and hybrid water heaters are and do.  If you have a need for instant hot water consider a recirculating pump and loop line or an on demand pump to treat this need.  Tankless and hybrid water heaters typically take a little more time because of sensors in the unit to get that hot water from “A” to “B” when the water reaches the point of use though it will remain hot for hours if you want without running cold.  That is the biggest benefit to these great water heaters that and not needlessly heating a storage tank 24 hours a day for  hot water that you aren’t using.
